Imagine yourself chomping down and relishing every bite of Jollibee Champ’s 100% pure beef, hefty 1/3 pound patty, with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, creamy cheese, ketchup and mayo. But now imagine gorging on this filling delight in less than half a minute. If you can, you could have been the winner of the recently held, first-ever Champ Eating Contest organized by Jollibee’s Metro North team at Trinoma in Quezon City.
Hundreds took the challenge but but only four came close to bagging the coveted title. Eventually hailed as the first Fastest Champ Eater was Samuel Abeja, 24, from Quezon City, who finished the Champ in just 23 seconds. Coming in close was Fernando Campana who was able to finish the famous burger in 30 seconds. Ben Sta. Mariano and Florante Agustin both munched on the Champ in 35 seconds which placed them in the third spot.
Abeja, Sta. Mariano, Agustin and Campana were among the 14 Jollibee customers from the Metro North area who qualified for the CHAMPionship after topping the two-week-long promotion in selected Jollibee stores wherein customers were given a dare to order and finish their Champ burgers in less than a minute. All participants who were able to finish the CHAMP in 1 minute or less got their CHAMP for free.
“Champ is quite a big burger and it looks like it’s hard to finish given a very limited time. But it’s just so good, you won’t have a problem just wolfing it down, “said Abeja, who took home P5,000 worth of Jollibee gift certificates for winning the competition. The second and third placers were also given Jollibee gift certificates.
The event became the talk of the town as many spectators themselves tried it in their own homes and created videos of them doing the challenge.
